Industries and task categories
Industries and categories are two ways of labelling your records. An industry classifies a partnership — the sector its sponsor operates in. Categories organize your tasks and products, so you can group and filter them by whatever scheme suits your work.
Who can manage them?
Industries, categories, and category groups are all managed by Site Admins, under Settings. Managers and Team Members can see them in use but can't change them.
Industries
An industry classifies a partnership. Each partnership can have one industry, and it's optional — a partnership can have no industry set at all.
You manage the list under Settings > Industries. Each industry can carry an External ID, which it keeps when it's brought in from another system during an import.
Industries are listed alphabetically and can't be manually reordered.
Setting a partnership's industry
The industry is chosen on the partnership itself, in its Industry field, not on the Industries settings screen. If the industry you want isn't in the list, a Site Admin can add it under Settings > Industries first.
What happens if I delete an industry?
Deleting an industry does not delete the partnerships that used it. Those partnerships simply go back to having no industry set — because industry is optional, nothing else changes for them.
Categories and category groups
Categories organize your tasks and products. Unlike industries, a task or product can have many categories at once, so you can label a single task with several at the same time.
Categories are arranged into category groups. Manage both under Settings > Categories, where each group is shown with the categories inside it. Both a category and a category group can carry an External ID for imports.
Categories are listed alphabetically within their group and can't be manually reordered.
Moving a category to another group
You can move a category from one group to another: edit the category and change its Category Group.
What happens if I delete a category?
Deleting a category removes it from every task and product it was applied to. The tasks and products themselves are not affected — they simply lose that one label.
What happens if I delete a category group?
Deleting a category group also deletes every category inside it. As the confirmation warns, "Deleting a Category Group will delete all associated categories." Because those categories are deleted, they're removed from any tasks and products that had them. The tasks and products are otherwise untouched.
