# Add social posts and assign them to partnerships

Social posts are the individual posts Trak tracks from social media. Most arrive automatically through [social feeds](https://help.trak.io/knowledge-base/social-feeds?hsLang=en), but you can also add specific posts by URL. Once a post is in Trak, you assign it to the partnership it belongs to so it counts toward that partner's activity.

You'll find posts under **Social** in the main navigation, on the **Timeline** tab.

### Before you start

- **Adding** a social post is available to anyone with the **Editor** or **Contributor** access role, including Collaborators where social is enabled for them. **Viewers** can see posts but can't add them.
- **Assigning** a post to partnerships, and editing a post's engagement figures, need the **Editor** access role.
- Adding posts from the main **Timeline** asks you to choose a feed to file them under, so at least one [feed](https://help.trak.io/knowledge-base/social-feeds?hsLang=en) must exist.

### Add posts by URL

You can add one post or a batch of up to 100 at once, from any of these places:

- The main **Timeline** (**Social**, then **Timeline**), where you file the posts under a feed.
- A partnership's **Social** tab, where the posts attach to that partnership.
- A task's **Social Posts** section, where the posts attach to the task and its partnership. You can also paste a post's link into a task comment to attach it the same way.

The steps below cover the main Timeline. From a partnership or a task, they're the same, except the posts attach there automatically.

1. Open **Social**, then the **Timeline** tab.
2. Choose **Add Social Posts** from the actions at the top right.
3. In the **Social Feed** field, choose the feed to file these posts under.
4. In the **Account** field, choose a partnership to attach the posts to right away. This is optional — you can assign them later instead.
5. In the **Social Posts** field, paste your post URLs — one per line, or paste a column copied straight from a spreadsheet.
6. Choose **Save**.

Adding by URL works for **Facebook**, **Instagram**, and **X (Twitter)** posts. To bring in other platforms, use a feed instead.

#### What happens next

The posts appear on your Timeline. A large batch imports in the background and fills in over a minute or two rather than all at once.

If you paste a Facebook share link that Trak can't resolve, it asks you to copy the direct post URL instead. Open the post on Facebook and copy the URL from your browser's address bar.

### How posts arrive from feeds

You don't have to add most posts by hand. An active feed refreshes every hour and creates a post for anything new on its channel. See [Social feeds](https://help.trak.io/knowledge-base/social-feeds?hsLang=en) for how feeds work and which platforms they cover.

### Assign a post to a partnership

A post can belong to one or more partnerships. Assigning a post needs the **Editor** access role. There are two places to do it.

#### From the Timeline

Each post card shows a partnership badge. It reads **Select Partnership** in grey when the post isn't assigned yet, or shows the partnership names in color when it is.

1. Select the badge on the post card.
2. Search for and select each partnership you want to assign. Selected partnerships are highlighted.
3. Choose **Done**.

#### From the post window

1. Select a post's image to open it.
2. In the **Partnerships** section, choose **Assign Partnerships**.
3. Search for and select the partnership.

From the same window you can also attach the post to a specific **task** under one of its partnerships, so it counts toward that task's fulfillment — pick the task from the dropdown on the partnership in the **Partnerships** section.

If [Social Intelligence](https://help.trak.io/knowledge-base/social-intelligence?hsLang=en) is on, this window also suggests partnerships it matched to the post, each with a confidence score. Choose **Assign** next to a suggestion to accept it.

### Remove a post from a partnership

- **On the Timeline**, open the badge and select the partnership again to unassign it.
- **In the post window**, select the trash icon next to the partnership in the **Partnerships** section.

Removing a post from a partnership also takes it off any of that partnership's tasks it was attached to.

### Analyze posts with Social Intelligence

When Social Intelligence is turned on, Trak reads each post's image and text, writes a short summary, detects the brands and logos in it, and suggests the partnerships it belongs to — so most posts are matched for you. See [Social Intelligence](https://help.trak.io/knowledge-base/social-intelligence?hsLang=en) for how it works and how to turn it on.

### If something goes wrong

**You don't see Add Social Posts.** Adding posts needs the Editor or Contributor access role. If you're a Viewer, ask a Site Admin to change your access role.

**You can't assign a post to a partnership.** Assigning posts needs the Editor access role. Contributors can add posts — which attach to the partnership or task you add them from — but can't reassign them afterward.
